Nusnäs and the Dala horses

In Nusnäs, just outside Mora, you can see how one of Sweden’s most iconic symbols is made. Dala horses have been crafted here for generations and at Nils Olsson Dalahästar you can follow the traditional craftsmanship from a piece of wood to a beautifully painted horse.

Rättvik

Take a trip to Rättvik and walk along the famous Långbryggan pier, explore the town centre or continue on to some of the area’s natural and cultural attractions. During summer, the area around Lake Siljan comes alive with events and activities.

In Sundborn, you can visit one of Sweden’s most famous artists’ homes. The colourful home of Carl and Karin Larsson tells the story of family life and is filled with art, design and Swedish design history.

Styggforsen

Just outside Rättvik lies Styggforsen Nature Reserve with its dramatic waterfall and fascinating geology. A hiking trail leads through the reserve, making Styggforsen a lovely excursion if you want to combine nature, walking and unusual scenery.

Dalhalla

This former limestone quarry outside Rättvik is now one of Sweden’s most spectacular outdoor concert venues. During summer, Dalhalla hosts concerts and performances in dramatic surroundings that are an experience in themselves.

Lake Siljan

During the summer

  • Check out a concert at Dalhalla.
  • Karl Tövåsens living mountain pasture outside Vikarbyn welcomes visitors during the summer.
  • Take a guided tour of Hildasholm Museum and Gardens in Leksand.
  • Take a trip to Björkberget in Siljansnäs and enjoy a summertime coffee break and magical views. Naturum Dalarna is also located here.
  • Walk around the bird lake Limsjön, 7 km, as soon as the ground dries up in the spring. 
  • Cycle wonderful distances in Leksand and Rättvik. Visit Dalarna recommends some nice bike rides
  • Take a trip to​​​​​​​ Kajaktiv in Dala-Floda and experience something out of the ordinary. Try white water rafting, kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding.
